1050 / 1100 Aluminum
Commercially pure aluminum grades commonly considered where good formability, corrosion resistance and relatively high electrical or thermal conductivity are more important than high structural strength.
A 4x8 aluminum sheet is a commonly requested flat-sheet size measuring 4 ft × 8 ft, or 48 × 96 inches. The exact metric conversion is 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm. 1220 × 2440 mm is a closely related commercial metric sheet size frequently requested for industrial fabrication.
Voyage Metal supplies aluminum sheet for industrial procurement in grades including 1050, 1100, 3003, 5052, 5083 and 6061. Final availability depends on alloy, temper, thickness, dimensional tolerance, surface requirement, quantity, processing and the applicable purchase specification.
“4x8” describes the sheet width and length. It does not define the aluminum alloy, temper or thickness.
A complete purchase specification should normally identify the alloy, temper, thickness, finished dimensions, tolerance, surface condition and quantity .
For example, a 5052-H32 sheet and a 6061-T6 sheet can have the same 48 × 96 inch dimensions, while offering different forming, strength, machining and corrosion characteristics.
A practical RFQ may therefore read: 5052-H32, 3 mm × 1220 × 2440 mm or 6061-T6, 1/8 in × 48 × 96 in .
The table below is intended as an RFQ reference. It does not mean that every possible alloy, temper and thickness combination is continuously stocked.

The 4x8 size does not determine the aluminum grade. Select the alloy according to the fabrication process, required mechanical performance and service environment.

| 1.5 mm | 0.059 in | Formed sheet components |
| 2.0 mm | 0.079 in | General fabrication and panels |

| 6.0 mm | 0.236 in | Heavy sheet / plate-type use |
| 6.35 mm | 1/4 in | Common imperial requirement |
Purchasing note: sheet and plate terminology should follow the applicable product specification and purchase order requirements. Do not rely on one universal marketing thickness cutoff for every aluminum alloy and standard.
Theoretical weight depends on actual length, width, thickness and alloy density .
For preliminary purchasing calculations, a nominal aluminum density of 2700 kg/m³ can be used as a general reference. Exact density varies by alloy.
Weight (kg) =
Length (m) × Width (m) × Thickness (m) × Density (kg/m³)
The following table uses the exact converted 48 × 96 inch dimensions of 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm and a nominal density of 2700 kg/m³.
| Thickness | Sheet Size Used | Theoretical Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 mm | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 8.03 kg / sheet |
| 1.5 mm | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 12.04 kg / sheet |
| 2.0 mm | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 16.05 kg / sheet |
| 3.0 mm | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 24.08 kg / sheet |
| 3.175 mm (1/8 in) | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 25.49 kg / sheet |
| 4.0 mm | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 32.11 kg / sheet |
| 6.0 mm | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 48.16 kg / sheet |
| 6.35 mm (1/4 in) | 1219.2 × 2438.4 mm | ≈ 50.97 kg / sheet |
The figures above are theoretical estimates, not certified shipment weights.
Actual weight can vary with alloy density, thickness tolerance and measured dimensions. Use the specified alloy and actual supplied dimensions for final logistics calculations.
The applicable material standard should be identified when chemical composition, mechanical properties, product tolerances or certification requirements must be formally verified.
Commonly referenced for aluminum and aluminum-alloy flat sheet and plate where the requested alloy, temper, product form and dimensions fall within the applicable specification requirements.
Relevant where applicable to specified high-magnesium aluminum-alloy products intended for marine and similar environments, including qualifying sheet and plate alloy-temper combinations.
Depending on the order, buyers may request MTC / MTR, dimensional inspection, surface inspection, identification marking or third-party inspection .
Inspection and documentation requirements should be stated during the RFQ or purchase-order stage.
Many industrial buyers use a 4x8 sheet as starting material and require additional processing before fabrication.
Processing capability should be confirmed against alloy + temper + thickness + finished dimensions + tolerance .
The 4x8 format is convenient for fabrication into panels, covers, formed components and machined parts. The final application should be matched to the selected alloy and temper.
MTC / MTR documentation can be discussed according to the specified alloy, temper and applicable purchase requirement.
Thickness, width, length and agreed dimensions can be checked against the purchase specification before shipment.
Protective film, interleaving or other surface-protection requirements should be stated where appearance is important.
Packing can be selected according to dimensions, sheet count, handling method and international transportation requirements.
If third-party inspection is required, define the inspection scope and stage before order confirmation.
Identification, documentation and packaging requirements can be specified to support receiving inspection and project traceability.
